The Unlearn Agency in partnership with Concerts SA present this Sunday the 08th November. The aim of this initiative is to develop new audiences and appreciation for live music in areas located outside central Johannesburg as well as showcase young fresh South African talent on new platforms throughout Gauteng.
The band, made up of Ntuthu Ndlovu (Lead Vocalist And Poet b.1983), Mosebetsi Nzimande (Bass Guitar b. 1979), Earl Joseph (Rhythm Guitar b.1973), Given Mamaqua (Drums b.1985) are able to distill an assortment of sounds and personalities into a distinctive fusion of Alternative Rock, Soul, Pop, Hip-°©‐Hop, Folk, Mbaqanga, Reggae, Dub And Punk. Loosely Defined as Alternative African. Uju Began in a small rehearsal room in Johannesburg’s Newtown Cultural district 10 years ago and has attracted a large underground following as well as critical acclaim from numerous dailies, magazines and electronic media. They Have appeared at numerous national music festivals and live venues across the country,Southern and East Africa including Oppikoppi 6 times and Fete De la Musique twice. Their Debut Album, FREE, was released in April 2010 through Sony Music South Africa and has been received extremely well by the South African Media While attracting industry plaudits including a MetroFM And SAMA Nomination in 2011. Their First single “Free” was playlisted on Highveld, KFM, Radio 2000, KayaFM and SAFM. Their Video for the single was on high rotation on SABC 3, Channel O and VUZU.
We live in an ever-evolving world and with that music has evolved too, this specific performance is a showcase of how jazz has evolved over the years but is still strongly inspired by those that came before them.
