Napo Masheane and Friends, Song of Nongoma and We Chant will be at the Soweto Theatre from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 April 2015.
Napo Masheane and friends is a cumulating showpiece altered from its 2008 run paying homage to the development and fortification of spoken word. This scintillating production unequivocally weds spoken word with smooth tunes of Afro-Jazz and Soulful Sounds of Gospel. For the first time, Napo will collaborate on stage with Ladies in Jazz, rejuvenating the music language, with layers of experience and life profoundly lived. The twist is an all-male a cappella group Beyond Vocal who will be infusing their unique gospel sounds with the oral traditional poetry, while Fat Black Women Sing brings a sense of beauty and humour within spoken word.
Song of Nongoma, a free jazz operetta inspired by Credo Mutwa, is a futuristic fable about the origins, death and rebirth of true music. Written by Kgafela OA Magogodi and Steve Kwena Mokwena.it actually comes in the form of eater story and Mandla Mlangeni is the musical director.
We Chant, a flamboyant song and dance spectacle by Nhlanhla Mahlangu in collaboration with Jefferson Tshabalala, is a music driven theatre work that succeeds to fuse isicathamiya with the youthful nature of beat boxing, hip hop and house music, the classic flair of opera, the quirkiness of stand-up comedy and poetry.
With these mesmerising performances, Soweto theatre is certainly a place to be this Easter! For only R210 you get a 3-day pass to all the events.
