Music Revival collaborates with Durban Girls College in a new series of concerts starting 23 April.
Christopher Duigan’s Music Revival in association with Durban Girls’ College present the first in a new series of concerts at Durban Girls’ College in Musgrave Road. For this opening concert, conveniently situated in the Musgrave area, Joanna Frankel, KZN Philharmonic Orchestra Concert Master joins Christopher Duigan in a delightful programme of music by Mozart, Ravel, Gershwin, Saint-Saëns and Ginastera. The concert will begin with Prelude Performers from DGC Music Department.
A graduate of the famed Julliard School of Music in New York, Joanna Frankel currently divides her time between her role as concert-master of South Africa’s premier Concert Orchestra the KZN Philharmonic, and obligations as part of Carnegie Hall’s Young Artists programme “The Academy’ in New York. Christopher Duigan, a familiar name in South African concert circuit, and in particular in KZN due to his groundbreaking work as concert pianist and concert entrepreneur, holds the rare honour of being named a Steinway Artist (one of six pianists in South African history) and is one of the most prolific concert artists in South Africa.
The programme includes two rarely played single movements works for violin and orchestra by WA Mozart, George Gershwin’s selection from ‘Porgy and Bess’, salon favourites by Edward Elgar, Maurice Ravel’s Sonata for Violin and Piano and Alberto Ginastera’s Pampaeno No 1.
The concert takes places on Thursday 23 April at 7:30 pm in The New Functions Room at Durban Girls’ College.
