Guitar globetrotter Joep Pelt is in constant search of new ingredients for his music. His travels though the Southern states of the US as a teenager and the time he spent in Mali, Ethiopia and the Caribbean proved to be musically formative for the young guitarist from Amsterdam. Joep ìs musical journeys lead to several international collaborations and musical development as a singer/guitarist and songwriter.
The records of Mahlathini and Miriam Makeba that his father played throughout Joep ìs childhood lead to a deeply rooted love for South African music. After visiting the country for the first time in 2010 to make a radio documentary for Dutch national radio about Mzanzi’s rich musical traditions, Joep struck up collaborations with artists such as Black Moses Ngwenya from the Mbaqanga group Soul Brothers and Zulu Boy, with whom he toured the Netherlands extensively.
At this time Joep is spending several weeks in Joburg to finish his new/documentary project « Soweto Soul » in which he collaborates with different dynasties of South African music. On January 29, 2016 Joep will give a special concert at The Orbit, sharing his previous musical travels and artistic ambitions of « Soweto Soul » through his music.
