The second weekend in July saw the close of the 40th National Arts Festival in Grahamstown. Friday and Saturday evening of the Standard Bank National Jazz Festival were wrapped up by Jimmy Dludlu, both nights at the DSG Hall were packed to capacity. Dludlu was joined on stage by his band C-Bass Collective who helped him get the crowd onto their feet. His repertoire consisted of hits from his many award winning albums, as well as some South African standards like Strike Vilakazi’s Meadowlands which got the crowd onto their feet and Dludlu off stage and into the aisles. Dludlu was the last artist to perform on the DSG Hall stage both nights, so it didn’t really matter that his show ran 30 minutes over time on the first night, 40 minutes over on the second. The audience didn’t seem to notice or care, they were there to have a good time and they did.
The 40th National Arts Festival ran in Grahamstown from 3 July 2014 to 13 July 2014.
