Kesivan Naidoo described on the Carnegie Hall website as “one of the exciting leaders of the next wave of Cape jazz performers”, is the first artist in residence at Johannesburg’s newest jazz club The Orbit.

Kesivan Naidoo started playing the drums at age 11, playing his first festival with the Webster Jazz Quintet at the Hogsback Arts Festival three years later. After this rapid progression into the world of music, Kesivan went on to become the youngest winner of the SAMRO Overseas Scholarship competition as well as the 2009 Standard Bank Young Artist for Jazz.

Kesivan Naidoo used his SAMRO Overseas Scholarship to study at Rhabindra Bharati University in Kolkata, India where he studied under sitar guru Sanjay Bandophadyah. At home, he spent a few years under the mentorship of internationally acclaimed drummer Lulu Gontsana.
