Singer and songwriter Ronnie Joyce has died today at the age of 52. We understand that Ronnie has been ill for the last few weeks. He started performing around Cape Town at the age of 12. He had performed with the likes of Richard Jon Smith, Lionel Peterson and Jonathan Butler.
He teamed up with Jonathan Butler on Star On The TV Show and It Takes Two, both of these were Peter Vee productions. As a solo artist he released a number of hits including What Went Wrong With Us?, I’m Crying, Give a little love, Heavenly, Everybody Knows and Hey Big Brother. Another well known release was Merry Christmas Dear Mother which he released under the name Little Ronnie Joyce. In 1984 he recorded It All Adds Up with Brenda Fassie released under the name Brenda & Ronnie.
Jonathan Butler posted the following on facebook upon hearing the news: “This morning is a very sad day for me hearing the news that my old friend had passes away. Ronnie Joyce.im greatfull for the good times we shared over the years and that last year was so very special for me to have shared the stage with my old singing it takes two. Now Ronnie you the father the son and the Holy Spirit. You will be missed my old friend. May God give strength and comport to your family at this time. Love you always Jonathan.”
Ronnie Joyce leaves behind a wife and three children.
