Johannesburg Musical Society brings Classic Broadway to Johannesburg – a concert to lighten the spirits.

Sunday 16 August in the Linder Auditorium will see the Johannesburg Musical Society celebrating the fact that spring is just around the corner, when the Charl du Plessis Trio takes to the stage.

The inimitable Charl du Plessis has designed a Classic Broadway programme that showcases some of the choicest and most well-loved songs from the pens of composers such as Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter and Kurt Weill.

The Charl du Plessis Trio is recognised for their wonderful blend of sophisticated showmanship and their panache, and for this concert they will be joined by tenor Musanete, who will add his mellow voice to the mix of piano, bass and percussion. In this programme, devised specially for the Johannesburg Musical Society, music has been carefully selected to please both classical music lovers and musical theatre buffs. The trio will play music from Westside Story – one of Broadway’s greatest musicals – and also music from the pens of other composers who wrote for the ‘Great White Way’ and whose music, tried and tested by performance over many decades, has now become part of musical history. This will be a programme that delights both ear and heart.
