The Unlearn Agency, together with Concerts SA is bringing live music to the area of Khutsong: on 29 August 2015, from 15h00 until 00h00 at Lahliwe’s in Khutsong Carletonville, there will be live music concert embedded in their annual jazz jorl.
The aim of this initiative is to develop new audiences and encourage appreciation for live music in areas located outside the central cities as well as showcase young fresh South African talent on new platforms.
The next instalment will feature as a part of Lahliwe’s annual jazz event that is held in partnership with the Merafong Jazz Forum, who will be selecting records on the day alongside DJ Stan.
The programming will plug into this
event and will feature Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness (BCUC) consisting of six musicians from Soweto.
“BCUC moves the audience both physically and emotionally with a sound derived straight from their ancestral lineage. BCUC demystifies the general worldviews about modern Africa. The basic elements of the unmistakable BCUC sound are abstract congas from Cheex. With Lerato playing a moody, rocking guitar. Laced on top by the ragged rawness of Jovi’s unpretentious vocals, with Luja on the bass drum delivering flowing boom bap raps. Hloni’s funky howling ad-libs accompanied by whistles and nose-flutes. Sweetened with Kgomotso’s clear vocals and the tambourine. These ingredients are stirred till a chant of ecstasy and euphoria,” says promoter Dominique Soma while explaining the BCUC band profile.
“We live in an ever-evolving world and with music that has evolved too, this specific performance is a showcase of how jazz has evolved over the years but is still strongly inspired by those that came before them,” she says.
Vibration Taylor, an artist residing from Khutosng, will be opening this musical showcase.
The BCUC gig at Lahliwe’s is supported by Concerts SA: a joint South African/Norwegian project housed under the auspices of the Stakeholder Hub within The SAMRO Foundation; it receives financial, administrative and technical support from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, SAMRO and Concerts Norway. It is presented by The Unlearn Agency, a company with its finger on the pulse of live music events in South Africa.
This initiative is part of a roll out to communities and schools to consciously encourage music appreciation and public engagement with live music events.
