Award winning saxophonist, clarinet, and flute player, Magnus Lindgren brings his new album ”Souls” to South Africa for two very special performances at The Orbit jazz club, that will feature established South African musicians Concord Nkabinde (Bass & Vocals), Lindiwe Maxolo (Vocals), Erik Paliani (Guitar) & Rob Watson (Drums).
Recorded at New York’s legendary Clubhouse Studios, ”Souls” draws together some of the world’s top vocalists from Brazil, the US, the UK and Sweden and musicians including Gregory Porter. The album charts a carefully crafted journey full of image, rhythm, and light.
Magnus Lindgren is a highly respected multi-instrumentalist (saxophone, flute, clarinet and piano) and a prolific composer and arranger across different genres of music. Magnus Lindgren’s international career includes work with greats such as Herbie Hanckock, Gregory Porter, Jeff Lorber, Bobby McFerrin, Ira Coleman, Nils Landgren, Ivan Lins, Barbara Hendricks to name a few.
Whether playing solo, working with a jazz quartet, a big band or a classical orchestra, Magnus continuously pushes boundaries towards creating fresh material with depth. His skills have received public endorsement from the likes of Quincy Jones who said of Lindgren’s 2009 “Batacuda” project, an exploration of Brazilian music with an eclectic band: “Unbelievable, Incredible!
